Welcome to the Web site of the Xavier Society for the Blind.

APOLOGIES - Both of our embossers are STILL down, and no date even being estimated for their being back in operation. Brand new machines. We’re trying to do the best we can but so far, the ongoing problems with these embossers continue.

The Holy Father is coming to the United States and will making speeches in Washington, DC, New York and Philadelphia. As soon as we receive authorized transcriptions of those talks, we will make them available on line as audio recordings - not of the Holy Father’s voice but one of our readers - and in braille as soon as we can. Unfortunately, the embossers we got from INDEX have not proved reliable; as I write this BOTH of the machines are down, so we are somewhat behind in our ability to get materials out. But we will keep trying.

News & Events

  • The Xavier Society for the Blind is hosting a 9-day trip to Ireland, from April 7 to 15.

    Dear Friends,
I want to invite you to join me on an extraordinary trip to Ireland. It’s a “Pilgrimage” but as you can see, it touches many facets of Irish life, not just churches and shrines. We will have Mass available each day for those who wish to share the Eucharist in different surroundings, but we will also be visiting great natural wonders, sampling Irish whiskey, enjoying a medieval banquet and we’ve left space in the schedule for shopping, going off on your own, and perhaps even some surprises along the way, depending on schedule, weather and the wish of the group. I lived in Ireland for a year, and have visited many times, so I know this will be a wonderful trip.

Our trips in the past have been truly memorable, and this one will be too. You’ll get the chance to make new friends, deepen friendships you may already have, and spend nine days away from your “real” world. You’ll experience another country, another culture and you’ll gain a new and deeper insight into a group of people who have shared their music, their literature and their love of life around the world. I guarantee you a very special time as we celebrate spring in Ireland, 100 years since the great Easter uprising of 1916, and the joy of being together.

Please sign up early so we can share the excitement and the planning. And don’t hesitate to give me a call if you have any questions. I want you to join us. You’ll thank me.
