Services :: Library

The Xavier Society for the Blind founded and continues to manage the National Catholic Lending Library for the Blind. Books are available to be borrowed by clients from anywhere in the U.S. We are also part of the National Library Service, so our clients may borrow any books in the system and others may access our books through the same system.

Our collection focuses on material that is religious and spiritual, primarily (although not exclusively) Roman Catholic. We also have materials that are by Protestant and Jewish authors, and we are enlarging our collection of Orthodox writings. We have books that are academic and scholarly, some that are spiritual, biographies and books that are more contemporary. Our books are primarily for adults, but we also have smaller collections for young adults and children.

Library holdings are available in Braille, large-print and audio editions, although not every book may be available in every format. Audio editions are primarily in digital CD’s and MP3 format, but some older works may still be available on cassette tape, as we work to update our library.

Only registered and verified clients may borrow books from the library.
